Barreiras Home Inventory Service

Posted on in Member News

As a home owner or a tenant you take great pride not only in your home but in your possessions.

Do you know what you own? Do you know every single item in your home right down to the container of toothpicks stored wayyyyyy back in that cupboard beside the sink? ...you know the one I mean

In the event of a loss (fire, flood etc.) this is all information you may wish you had- a detailed inventory of your entire home contents. If you don't know what you have in your home and your possessions are lost you may not be compensated by your insurance company unless you can prove you owned the items.

Barreiras Home Inventory Service offers a documented summary of your household possessions that can include photos, descriptions, receipts, model/ serial numbers, quantity, age, appraisals, place of purchase and price.

This is all extremely valuable information when dealing with insurance companies. Every dollar you can't remember or account for is another dollar back into their pocket and out of yours.

You never expect to suffer a loss, it just won't happen to you right?

But it can.

Protect yourself.

BVO - New Location!

Posted on in Member News
BVO to begin “making good things happen” in NEW LOCATION!

The Blue Mountains, March 9, 2017 – Beaver Valley Outreach is pleased to announce that it has purchased the former site of Piper’s Restaurant on King Street in Thornbury for its new home.

This new chapter in BVO’s history will provide BVO with the accessible single level space for which it has been searching. In addition to plenty of parking space and much needed on site storage, the new location will provide sufficient office space for staff, volunteer gathering/meeting space, and both retail and sorting space for the Treasure Shop.

Despite many renovations of the current Bruce St. location, BVO has been struggling to continue to make the space work, according to BVO Chair Cathy Innes. “Our decision to purchase the new property was the result of due diligence in obtaining feedback from our staff, volunteers, customers and partners. Rather than an expansion, the new location is an improvement in efficiencies, giving us a clean, functional and accessible building in which we can do what we do, better.”

“This is such an exciting move for the organization,” says Carolyn Letourneau BVO’s Executive Director. “We are thrilled about the future improvements in work space for staff and volunteers, as well as the added convenience that customers and visitors to BVO will experience. The new location offers us sustainability and a more efficient space that will allow us to continue making good things happen in our community. I am confident that it will be the best place for BVO forever! “

For more information on BVO’s new location or to help BVO accomplish this transition, please contact Carolyn Letourneau @ 519-599-2577x21, executivedir@bvo.ca or Cathy Innes @ boardchair@bvo.ca

Be Job Ready by Dec 2017.

Posted on in Member News
That’s right, start this May and be job ready for December. The 8-month Personal Support Worker program starts in May. It trains students to be prepared with the knowledge and skills needed to provide support services to people living at home, in long-term care or acute care facilities, and to function as integral members of the health care team.
Upon successful completion of this program, the graduate will have demonstrated the ability to provide safe and competent care for individual clients who are experiencing physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioural challenges. Due to the increasing need for personal support workers in our area, Georgian College graduates are highly sought after by the time they finish their courses, and often find work placement immediately after graduating.
Interested? Call 705-445-2961 ext. 2932 to learn more about getting started.

Once you’re invested, they take care of monitoring and rebalancing your portfolio so you can get on with enjoying your life.

Through this relationship I am confident you will receive sophisticated wealth management focused on your long-term goals, with a low fees and no minimum level of assets. Throughout it all, you stay in control with full transparency into what they do, when they do it and why it’s been done.

Thornbury Jazzworks News

THORNBURY JAZZWORKS announces the 2017 Spring edition of the JAZZ AT THE LIBRARY series.

Continuing with the successful concept of previous years, the performances will offer not only superb musical entertainment but insight into the world of prominent 20th century  musicians, vocalists and composers.

The first concert will take place  on March 31 at the Library with Mary-Catherine Pazzano presenting a program celebrating the 100th birthday of Ella Fitzgerald.

During Jazzmania weekend on April 28 at the Marsh Street Centre, the exciting 10 member jazz orchestra, the Little Big Band Noodle Factory Jazz Project presents a show focusing on 150 Years of Jazz with emphasis on Canadian musicians and composers.

On May 26, back at the Library, the renowned jazz trombonist Russ Little brings his interpretation of what Jazz can be. His outstanding musical virtuosity and exuberance embody the pure joy of jazz.

On June 23 John MacMurchy, jazz saxophonist  and clarinetist born and raised in Collingwood and now well established in the Toronto Jazz scene, will show his passion for the beauty in music.

The Fall line-up will include the Chantry Island Quartet performing Claude Bolliing’s Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio No.1, a work seldom heard in Canada.

We are hoping to bring back Dean Hollin who previouslybrought the house down with his Nat King Cole show, to present a musical portrait of Cole Porter.

Stay tuned for further up-dates and news.

Shared Business Space in Thornbury!

Posted on in Member News

The Thornbury Business Hub 2016

We all love the flexibility of working from home but it is nice to get out into the community too!

We are looking for 3-4 other like-minded businesses to share the cost of renting a commercial space big enough for several desks and meeting areas.

$200-300/month.

Please let me know if this is of interest and we can get serious, pool resources and get a centre for social innovation going right here in Thornbury!

Call -we are open to ideas!
